Skagit-Anacortes
Folk Dancers is a group\village of approximately 80 people (30 on average attend each Tuesday dance). We exist for only one purpose: To recreationally dance to a wide variety of international folkdances from a
variety of ethnicities, sponsoring teaching classes to further that aim. Our
dances are heavier on eastern European line and circle dancing rather than say
Vienniese Waltzes, but yes we do Hambo's, Scottisches, and Swing to name a few. We prefer Balkan dances because they afford a
flexibility unconstrained by the need for a partner when dancing! Most of the dances are preformed in lines and circles and it doesn't matter what gender you are next to! We are not a preforming group and dance for the pure joy of it! The songs\music we dance to, are some of the most soulful music you will ever hear and to dance to them will raise your soul to new heights! No matter how you feel, give it a half an hour and you will forget your troubles and a smile will soon light up you face! Dancing is truly a great way to lift your spirit and put you in a good mood that will last for days! It can change your life, as may of our members have testified!
Our group is not made up of just a few key people who lead the group, but a village of people that works together to keep it healthy and growing by sharing the load together!
We all crave community in today's isolating and frenetic world. We also crave physical activity with more meaning than simply running on a treadmill. We crave human connection and a place we feel we belong! Folk dancing will fills those needs!
We consider all our members part of our community or village and a more friendly and welcoming group you will not find anywhere!
Dress is casual on Tuesdays but, those that can or want, dress up a little and wear ethnic costumes or similar attire especially at the parties on Saturdays!
June through August we have potlucks at 6pm on the second Tuesday of the month before we start dancing at 7pm. The potlucks allow us to catch up on the gossip and visit with our friends since we don't have a lot of time when we are dancing! The potluck is outside unless it’s raining, then it’s held inside!
